Noun modifiers appear frequently when one speaks of a material out of which something is made. This construction is usually called noun-noun compound or noun-noun combination and their semantic range is extensive, for example:

• Railroad crossing
• Wire cutter
• Elevator operator
• Relativity theory (thuyết tương đối)
• Sunday newspaper (Nhật báo)
• Culture shock (Cú sốc văn hóa)
