Cách dùng some

“Some” là một định từ và thường được dùng để chỉ số lượng, con số không xác định và được dùng khi ta không quan tâm đến số lượng chính xác.

Ví dụ: 

– Would you like some tea?

– His company is having some problems 

– My wife want to have some new clothes

Some friends of her came to the party last night

Còn nhiều cách sử dụng khác nhau của từ “some” sẽ được viết trong một ngày tới đây. 

– “somewhat” là trạng từ và chúng ta không nên nhầm lẫn với “some”

Cách dùng “somewhat”

1. If you want a word that sounds a bit closer to ‘something’, you could also use ‘somewhat’ (more than a little but not very). 

– The rice price is somewhat higher than I expected. (trạng từ somewhat bổ nghĩa cho higher)

– My hometown have changed somewhat since then.

– She is somewhat annoying at times, but really lovely.

– I was somewhat surprised to see her at the party with her boyfriend

– The financial condition has improved somewhat in the first 9 monthes this year.

– His behaviour has been somewhat unreasonable.

2. Somewhat is an adverb that indicates a change that is moderate in nature. 

Ví dụ:

– Nam was somewhat slower at problem solving than Phuong. (Nam is not as fast as solving problems as Phuong is.)

– She was somewhat surprised by his response. (While she was surprised, she was not greatly surprised, only surprised a small amount.)

3. Sometimes it can be used in a more ironic sense, as a type of ‘understatement’ in which the opposite may be true. Use in phrase – “somewhat of” equivalent to meaning: “something of”

– He found learning algebra to be somewhat of a challenge.(In actuality, he found algebra to be a tremendous challenge.)

– It was somewhat of a disappointment.

– To say that I was surprised is somewhat of an understatement.
