It sounds the finer point of pronunciation. It is written within square brackets ( [ ] ) examples: the word “pin” is transcribed phonetically as [ phɪn ]. Phonetic transcription describes the pronunciation in detail. Therefore it is often referred to as “narrow transcription”.
