Phonetic transcription

Phonetic transcription: uses phonetic symbols for various sounds including symbols to show in detail how a particular sound is pronounced.

It sounds the finer point of pronunciation. It is written within square brackets ( [ ] )

Examples: the word “pin” is transcribed phonetically as

Phonetic transcription describes the pronunciation in detail. Therefore it is often referred to as “narrow transcription”.
