Wh-question clause trong mệnh đề danh ngữ

Lần trước chúng ta tìm hiểu về mệnh đề danh ngữ thông qua một số ví dụ cụ thể. Hôm nay chúng ta tìm hiểu về trường hợp mệnh đề danh ngữ được tạo thành từ câu wh- question.

Khái niệm về mệnh đề với “wh-question”

wh-question clause (một số giáo trình gọi là wh-interrogative clause) là mệnh đề danh ngữ được tạo thành khi ta chuyển câu hỏi dạng wh-question thành mệnh đề.

Cần lưu ý 2 trường hợp sau:

Subject pattern

Khi wh-word là chủ ngữ của chính mệnh đề đó. Trong trường hợp này trật tự từ không thay đổi.

Ví dụ về Subject pattern:

– Who started the space race? 

-> Do you know who started the space race?

– Which companies offer the best opportunities in your field ?

->The job center can tell you which companies offer the best opportunities in your field.

– How many big cities have anti-pollution laws ?

-> The environmental protection Agency will tell you how many big cities have anti-pollution laws.

– What is required to solve the problem of air pollution?

-> I would like to know what is required to solve the problem of air pollution

– Who is in charge of Management Board of project “multi-purpose hunger elimination and poverty reduction in Vu Quang District and adjacent area – Ha Tinh province”?

-> Do you know who is in charge of Management Board of project “multi-purpose hunger elimination and poverty reduction in Vu Quang District and adjacent area – Ha Tinh province?

Object pattern

Khi wh-word không là chủ từ mà chỉ đóng vai trò là từ nối. Có sự thay đổi về trật tự từ.

Ví dụ về object pattern:

– Who are the hijackers? ( with “tobe” plus a subject complement )

-> No one seems to know who the hijackers are   (Chúng ta có thể thấy trật tự từ đã thay đổi)

– How can we end the airplane hijackings? (with modal verb)

-> It`s difficult to determine how we can end the airplane hijackings  

– Where have they taken the hostage? (with the auxiliaries Has / have)

The police won’t reveal where they have taken the hostage

– What do the hijackers want? ( auxiliaries do, does, did)

The government wouldn’t say what the hijackers want

(Chú ý: trật từ từ theo câu khẳng định và trợ động từ có thể được loại bỏ trong cấu trúc dạng này)

– How many hostages did the hijackers kill?

->The newspapers haven’t report how many hostage the hijackers killed. (bỏ đi trợ từ “did”)

– At which university did Albert Einstein teach?

-> I don’t know at which university Albert Einstein taught (bỏ đi trợ từ “did”).
