State the difference between the inflectional and derivational morpheme, give examples for instance.
Difference between inflectional and derivational morpheme
– Derivational morpheme is a kind of bound morpheme. It is added to a word to make a new word, new meaning or new part of speech. A traditional term for derivational morpheme is affix (prefix and suffix).
Examples: agree – disagree, work – worker, happy – happiness
– Inflectional morpheme is a kind of bound morpheme which is added to a word in order to express grammatical contrast in the sentence such as singular/plural or past tense/present tense…It does not change the part of speech of the root or the stem.
Examples: work – worked, cold – colder
