Antecedent is a preceding word or phrase that is referred back to a single word (anaphora) in the next part of speech of the sentence or in the next sentence.
Example:
– That pretty girl is very polite
– My brother likes dog meat but I hate it (“Dog meat” is antecedent of “it”)
